Kalamazoo College and Western Michigan University 4+1 Master’s Programs
Earn your Bachelors Degree from Kalamazoo College and your Master’s Degree from Western Michigan University in five years. Apply 6 to 12 undergraduate credits-by-examination and transfer credits from Kalamazoo College toward one of the following programs:
Applied Economics
As stated in this Cooperative Agreement between Kalamazoo College and Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo College students may be able to transfer a maximum of six undergraduate credits between Kalamazoo College and WMU for application toward a WMU master’s degree.
Additionally, Kalamazoo College students may take Economics 5040 (Mathematics for Economists) at WMU as guest students during the fall of their senior year. Kalamazoo College students who take Economics 5040 during their senior year, and received a grade of B or higher, will receive three credits as “credit by examination” toward the M.A. at WMU.
Course Transfer
Up to six credit hours may be transferred to Western Michigan University from Kalamazoo College with the successful completion of any combination of the following courses with a grade of B or better:

Comparative Religion
Students majoring in religion at Kalamazoo College will be able to transfer up to 12 credit hours of work towards their master’s degree in comparative religion at Western Michigan University.

To receive up to six credits at WMU as REL 5000 equivalents, students from Kalamazoo College will be required to submit their final writing projects from any of the following Kalamazoo College courses for evaluation by the WMU Department of Comparative Religion faculty. The work will be graded “credit” or “no credit.” “Credit” will be posted on the transcript as “Credit earned by examination” without letter grade or honor points. Examination fees are assessed on a credit hour basis and are the same for all students.

Political Science
As stated in the Cooperative Agreement between Kalamazoo College and Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo College students may be able to transfer a maximum of six undergraduate credits (non-entry level) between KC and WMU for application toward a WMU master’s degree in political science. Additionally, Kalamazoo College students may also be able to obtain from WMU a maximum of three graduate credits by examination based on advanced level coursework at KC. Combined, students may acquire a maximum of nine credits that can be applied toward a master’s degree in political science from WMU.

To receive up to three credits hours at WMU as graduate level equivalents, students from Kalamazoo College will be required to submit their final writing projects for POLS 593. WMU Department of Political Science faculty will determine the basis for evaluation and the awarding of the credit.
